We are delighted to announce that the funding calls for 2025 are now open for ACES affiliates. Each year, ACES provides a number of funding opportunities to support affiliates’ research and the organisation of academic and public outreach events. This support is distinct from any workshop, seminar or outreach activities that ACES Theme Groups are to be supporting in the coming years.

ACES welcomes proposals for research support from any ACES affiliate employed at the University of Amsterdam, including postdocs and PhD scholars. We particularly proposals from early-career scholars active in ACES. Proposals can be submitted for one or both of the following two kinds of research support activities:

  • Small-Scale Research Support

Research support can be requested to advance research related to European or European Union studies, ideally (but not necessarily) interdisciplinary research and ideally also linked to one or more of ACES’s 5 Research Themes (see Theme Groups above).  Money can be used for travel, material support, and research assistance for research work.

Budget: up to € 2500

  • Academic Conferences and Workshops

Academic conferences/workshops are (usually one-day) events where a topic with a distinct European dimension is addressed. The event should produce tangible outcomes, such as a proposal for a special issue of a journal, or an edited book. Conferences and workshops more targeted to public engagement and dissemination should make this aspect of the event clear in the application.

Budget: up to € 5000
