Staff and students who experience persistent issues or structural problems at the UvA can contact the ombudsperson. The ombudsperson listens, offers guidance, and identifies areas for improvement.

The ombudsperson monitors recurring problems and, if necessary, discusses them with the Executive Board, the deans or the secretary. They operate independently and impartially and treat all reports confidentially and with care. No personal information is shared without your consent. The ombudsperson’s role and procedures are defined in the Regulations concering UvA's Ombudsfunctionaris.

What the ombudsperson can do

Following a report, the ombudsperson may offer support in various ways, such as:

  • recording the report;
  • offering independent advice;
  • mediating or engaging in dialogue with the relevant faculty or service;
  • initiating an investigation in the case of multiple reports;
  • referring to an appropriate body or professional;
  • making recommendations to the Executive Board, the deans or the secretary.

You may also choose to have your report recorded without any further follow-up.
