To raise social safety awareness the UvA wants to engage and stimulate the conversation about social safety. One of the ways we do this is through the theatre and discussion programme The Learning Curve. The play shows how intimidation and harassment play a role in the academic world, and offers an opening to explore how we can tackle problems. In October 2021 performances are being organised at all the faculties.
Episode 3 (October 2020) of the ASVA's podcast series is about social safety. Gabriella Thompson of Our Bodies Our Voice talks about boundary crossing behaviour and how to set boundaries. What social safety means and what you can do if you experience something yourself.
In this talk, Amy C. Edmondson (Professor of Leadership and Management at Harvard Business School) explains how work environments are formed in which people do not speak up. She gives three practical tips for creating an environment in which people feel safe to contribute fully and express themselves.
Scientists are increasingly faced with threats, intimidation and hate reactions in response to media and other public appearances. The Association of Universities has announced measures to support universities and staff members in this regard.
